ATT STÄNGA

BACKGROUND

Over the last decade, the demand for livestock agriculture has been rising at a healthy rate due to the steady improvements of living standards. However, livestock farming is a difficult business to maintain because the industry is exposed to the significant threat of infectious diseases and viruses. Serious exposure may lead to mass animal infection, or assigning the entire farm to euthanasia by authorities, resulting in the loss of years of revenue. Therefore, disease control is among the highest priorities of livestock farming.

To counter infection risks, farmers utilize IoT sensors to detect the first sign of fever in animals and take immediate medical response or early quarantine measures before the infection spreads. An early detection of abnormal body temperatures not only increases the effectiveness of medical treatments but also reduces the contagiousness of the animal by giving farmers more time to prepare for a proper quarantine process.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

Our partner in the hog farming industry applies BLE Temperature Sensor BLE temperature sensor ear tags to all hogs in the facility, and is looking for a network infrastructure to collect all sensor data and monitor all hogs' body temperature in real-time. The requirements are:

  • Mass device connectivity

The hog raising facility is separated into 18 hog pens, each housing 120 hogs, adding to 2160 hogs in total. The network infrastructure must be able to reliably connect with all 2160 BLE Sensor Tags.

  • Signal identification

The facility has 2160 IoT devices transmitting signals at the same time within a crowded area. The network infrastructure must be able to receive real-time transmission from all devices, filter and identify unique signals.

  • Rural area deployment

The hog raising facility is located in a rural area without network infrastructure, communication with the cloud requires a network designed to operate in remote facilities.

  • A centralized management platform

After gathering the data in real-time, a cloud monitoring and analytical platform is needed to perform remote management.
